During June, we conducted fieldwork in the area of the mountain Orjen to determine the distribution, population parameters, habitat characteristics and activity patterns of the Mosor rock lizard. Visual transects have been undertaken and collected data will be further statistically analysed. Some other species of lizards, such as the Sharp-snouted rock lizard, Common wall lizard and Green lizard were also recorded in the area.
This region has the highest rainfall in Europe, averaging 5,000 millimetres per year. We have found that this is true because we often had to interrupt fieldwork due to sudden rain showers. Nevertheless, forest fires are common in the Orjen Mt region which affect the habitat of the Mosor rock lizard.
