The First Rufford Small Grants conference of the projects that were carried out in the countries of the Balkan region was held on 21 and 22 March 2016 in Banja Luka, Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This conference is one of a series which Rufford Foundation organizes every year around the world with idea to share the results of the projects, help grant recipients to get to know each other and discuss ideas and problems.
Thirthy-three researches from the Balkan countries (Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Turkey and Albania) presented their projects at the conference that was held under the motto „Nature knows no boundaries“.
The project “Research, conservation and promotion of the endemic Balkan rock lizards Dinarolacerta spp. in Montenegro”, implemented during the year 2014-2015 was presented by Dr. Katarina Ljubisavljević.
Panel discussions on the development of social networks in science, networking methods and possibilities of publishing scientific data resulting from the project work were organized. Also, the grant recipients presented their countries through cultural exhange and after the official part of the conference had the opportunity to enjoy a trip on which they met with cultural and historical sights of the ancient Bosnian town of Jajce.
The conference was attended by Josh Cole, Rufforf Small Grants Director. Organizers of the conference were Dr. Dušan Jelić from the Croatian Herpetological Society HYLA and Ana Ćurić from the Society for Research and Conservation of Biodiversity in Banja Luka, to whom we would like to thank for the excellent organization of the conference and the wonderful companionship.
