The project of research and protection of the endemic Balkan rock lizards (Dinarolacerta spp.): Field work in Mt. Lovćen

The project team conducted field studies in Mt. Lovćen by the end of June and beginning of July 2014 in order to determine population size and density of the Mosor rock lizard, habitat characteristics, presence of other reptile species and threatening factors.

Data on population parameters and habitat use were successfully collected and will be statistically processed. The Mosor rock lizard occurs at several locations in Mt. Lovćen which are known to be favourite picnic places for the local people, “must see” destinations for tourists visiting Montenegro and at the same time places of legal building within the National park. Unfortunately, tourists and local people leave behind their garbage and bonfires burnings, damaging the very habitat of the Mosor rock lizard.
